Tandoori Malai Soya Chaap Recipe / Soya Malai Chaap Tikka Recipe

Tandoori malai soya chaap recipe is a dish which is most loved in the many parts of Delhi. This recipe is a pure vegetarian dish but is considered equivalent to non-vegetarian dishes. It is a delicious snack and has a mouth-watering flavor of spices. You can be served as a starter. It is made with soya pieces marinated in a heavy marinade of rich spices, cream and butter.

Ingredients:

For the Marination Mixture :——

  • Yogurt or Dahi – 5 tbsp
  • Kashmiri Red Chili Powder – 2 tbsp 
  • Chat Masala – 1/2 tbsp
  • Kasoori Methi – 1 tbsp
  • Black Salt – 3/4 tbsp
  • Cumin Powder – 1 tbsp
  • Salt as per taste
  • Garam Masala – 1 tbsp
  • Fresh Finely Chopped Pudina or Mint – 1 tbsp
  • Black Pepper Powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Butter – 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Food Colour a pinch
  • Soya Chaap – 6-7 pieces
  • Cream or malai – 2-3 tbsp

For making Tandoori Malai Chaap :—

  • Sliced Onion – 2 nos. medium
  • Finely Chopped Coriander Leaves – 1 tbsp
  • Lemon Juice – 1 tbsp
  • Finely Chopped Green Chili – 1/2 tbsp
  • Red Chili Powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Chat Masala – 1 tbsp
  • Garam Masala – 1 tbsp
  • Cream or Malai – 2 tbsp
  • Butter – 2-3 tbsp

Instructions:

  • For the marination mixture :——-
  • In a big bowl, add dahi, kashmiri red chili, chat masala, kasoori methi, black salt, cumin powder, salt, garam masala, pudina powder, black pepper, turmeric and melted butter, mix well.
  • Now you can add the food colour and mix well, keep aside.
  • For Making :—–
  • Take 6-7 pieces of pre boiled and cooked Soya Chaap.
  • Chop each of them horizontally into 2 equal sized pieces and remove their stick, keep aside.
  • Next in the marinade mixture add cream and mix well, this will make the chaaps richer and tastier.
  • Add the soya chaap pieces into the prepared marinade mixture and stir until all the chaap are well coated.
  • Keep it aside to set for half an hour. The Chaap is ready to be cooked after half an hour. The longer you keep the better the flavour.
  • To cook it on the stove :—-
  • Next start to skewer the soya chaap pieces on the steel skewers, piece by piece for diced pieces and for long pieces just insert from one edge and remove from the other edge.
  • Cook the soya chaaps over direct flame, for 2-3 minutes or until you see small black spots.
  • If you do not have steel skewers then you can use wooden sticks
  • Once all the sticks are done, brush melted butter on each side of the soya chaaps. This step will give extra flavour and a nice coating in the soya chaaps.
  • Once done brown the soya chaaps over high heat again, for 1 minute or until you get black spots on the soya chaaps.
  • You can simply remove the long soya chaaps from the skewers and cut into small size pieces.
  • The Soya Chaap has cooked well.
  • To bake it in an oven :——
  • Assemble all the Soya Chaap in a skewer and them on a wire wrack.
  • Preheat the oven at 250 degrees centigrade and place the rack in it.
  • Bake it in the oven for 10 minutes at 250 degree centigrade.
  • They have baked after 10 minutes, spread some butter over them and again bake it at 200 degrees centigrade for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • The Soya Chaap has baked well.
  • To cook it in a non-stick pan :—–
  • Preheat a pan on the medium flame, add some butter to it.
  • Place the Chaaps to cook in it and cook it for 3-5 minutes.
  • Flip it and cook it from the bottom for 2 to 3 minutes until it becomes brown.
  • If you are making it in the non stick pan then you would not require any sticks.
  • The Chaap has cooked well.
  • For making tandoori malai chaap :—
  • In a large mixing bowl, add the soya chaaps pieces, onions, coriander leaves, lemon juice, green chili, red chili powder, chat masala, garam masala, cream and finally melted butter.
  • Mix well.
  • Serve the delicious Soya Chaaps with sliced onions and green chutney.

  • Place a piece of foil around the gas burner; this will avoid the area from becoming messy.
