Thekua Khajoor Recipe is a traditional Bihari recipe. It is a traditional rural homemade cookie of northern India. It is very nutritious and once prepared can be stored for several weeks. Thekua is a crispy and sweet cookie. It is made of wheat flour, jaggery, coconut and cardamom powder. It is also a popular dish during chhath and other religious festival. Chhath is a very big festival is dedicated to the sun god.

  • Wheat Flour – 2 cup
  • Ghee – 3-4 tbsp
  • Chopped Coconut – 2 tbsp
  • Grated Jaggery – 11/4 cup
  • Green Cardaom (Peel and crushed) – 4 nos.
  • Ghee for frying –
  • Water as needed –


  • In a bowl, add jaggery, water and green cardamom, make a watery solution.
  • In a bowl, add wheat flour, coconut and ghee, mix well so oil incorporates well with flour.
  • Add enough jaggery water to make a dough of rolling consistency, as we are preparing for paratha/roti and keep aside covered for 15 minutes.
  • Take a lump of dough (the size as that for making chapaatis) and make any shape you like, rectangular or circular.
  • Heat the ghee in a pan on medium flame for deep fry, slide the khajur carefully.
  • Fry it till turns little golden brown.
  • Serve when completely cooled.
