Dal/Soup/Raita

Dal is an essential staple in Indian food. Irrespective of whichever region in India you go , you will get dal as one of the main meals. It is also termed as dhal , dhaal, pappu, paripu etc. based on various regions. It is made by splitting dried pulses , lentils , peas or different types of beans.
It is not only eaten in India , but rather in entire south Asian region , such as Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Shri Lanka etc.

Daals are really very tasty, nutritious, healthy and easy to cook and personally my most favorite Indian food. They are so essential in the Indian food that every Indian eats it almost daily.
In North India , dal is eaten with chapati and rice. In South India , it is taken with ice. While in Rajasthan and Gujarat, it is relished with a special kind bread called as baati. Daal Baati is becoming increasing popular nowadays. It is equally tasty even if you directly eat it as a soup.

There is many dishes / recipes / meals prepared using dal. Some people just cook it in the pressure cooker and eat. Others mix it with different vegetables and leaves and then cook it. While in South India different vegetables and tamarinds added to make sambhar , which is an essential meal there. Interestingly , even some sweets / desserts also are made using daal and trust me they are very tasty as well.

We have tried to give all major recipes of dal here. These include simplest of daal recipes to more interesting ones. We have also included various soups and raita recipes in the same section. Just have a look and enjoy cooking and eating.
